Impressions of Anne Gribbons of the 2007 World Cup

I had the opportunity to interview Anne Gribbons, one of the judges for the 2007 World Cup and ask her about her impressions, this is what she said:

I believe, that judges, riders and audience had a great time - we were presented with excellent horses and riders. Personally I felt, that the 2005 World Cup remains unchallenged when it comes to overall athmosphere and competition.

In the Grand Prix, almost all riders, with the exception of Steffen Peters, had small mistakes ( some more then others) and these were reflected in the large spread of scores. It was a very close decision between Isabell Werth and Steffen Peters in the Grand Prix.

All of the riders stepped up their performances for the Freestyle, however, Isabell Werth and Warum Nicht FRH were simply untouchable. A powerful and elastic mover, Warum Nicht FRH left no question unanswered and deservingly won the 2007 World Cup Final.

The horse/rider combinations which placed from second to sixth were only separated by fraction of points - in the end, the music and choreography made the difference.

In regards to music - I had watched Imke Schellekens-Bartels and her gorgeous Hanoverian mare Sunrise at the 2006 WEG in Aachen and adored her music. Her new music, composed specifically for Sunrise by Dutch Violinist Wigi Soerjadi and named 'The Spirit of Sunrise', in my opinion, did not support the horse, as much as it appeared to 'chase' her.

Kyra Kyrkland and Max did an outstanding job interpreting their music, their choreography had a high degree of difficulty. Jan Brinks and Briar, his 'horse of a lifetime' ( as he told SWANA members during a luncheon) also performed one of the best freestyle I have seen of this pair.

My personal favorite was Courtney King and Idocus. She rode this stallion with tact, light aides and presented us with an outstanding example of harmony between horse and rider and her music from 'The Wizard of Oz' was well suited to both.Overall, my experience as a judge ( for the first time as an 'O' judge) was a positive one and I am looking forward to the next World Cup.
