A Double Hit for Pop Art and Ashley Holzer at New England Dressage Fall Festival CDI-W
Canadian double Olympian Ashley Holzer, a current resident of New York, NY, won both the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle at the CDI–W New England Dressage Fall Festival, held September 12–16 in Saugerties, NY, USA.
Riding Pop Art (Amsterdam x Cabouchon), a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Holzer and Ian Nicoll, Holzer scored 70.708% in the Grand Prix test. The duo then performed their popular freestyle to earn 73.550% for the double victory.
Jacqueline Brooks from Mount Albert, ON, and Gran Gesto (Grannox x Goldstern), an 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding owned by Brinc Ltd. and Anne Welch, earned back-to-back sixth place finishes in both the Grand Prix (66.250%) and the Grand Prix Freestyle (67.250%).
The Grand Prix Freestyle also saw Olympian Cindy Ishoy, of Jerseyville, ON, ride down the centerline with Proton (Patriarch x Rosenkavalier), a 10-year-old Baden Wurttemberg gelding. The pair scored 67.100% for seventh place.
Top Canadian placings could also be found in the Advanced division. Chris Von Martels of Ridgetown, ON, and Korenbloem Charmeur (Charmant x Demokratin), a 15-year-old Westphalian owned Dr. Patricia Tomney, warmed up with a sixth place finish in Prix St. Georges class (64.250%) before going on to place second in the Intermediaire I with a score of 66.500%.
Jacqueline Brooks and Balmoral (Belcanto x Consul), a Canadian-bred eight-year-old Hanoverian gelding owned by Nick and Jean Vinios, Anne and John Welch and Brinc Ltd, began the competition with a second place in the Prix St. Georges with 67.250% before moving on to the Intermediaire I where they placed fourth with 66.050%. The pair ended the competition as strongly as they started, with second place honours in the Intermediaire I Freestyle on a score of 69.050%, a mere .2 points behind the class winner.
Joan Johnston of Kars, ON, riding KRS Wessel (Wolkenstein II x Linara), owned by Johnston and Joanna Crilly, also enjoyed success in the Intermediaire I Freestyle by finishing third with a score of 66.150%.
In the FEI Junior division, Annie-Pier Venne of Charlemange, QC rode to victory in the FEI Junior Freestyle aboard her 11-year-old Westphalian Step Up (Rouletto x Amourett) with a score of 67.050%.
The international judging panel included Barnabus Mandi (FEI O - HUN), Liselotte Fore (FEI I - USA), Lorraine MacDonald (FEI I - CAN), Janiene Rohr-Cicurel (FEI I - ARG) and Lois Yukins (FEI - USA).
